Key considerations when comparing specifications
What do we mean when we talk about a printer's monthly duty cycle or processor, and why is it important? Check below for an explanation of what these are, to better help you find the printer or MFP that is best suited to your needs.
Monthly Duty Cycle
This is what the manufacturer rates the printer engine as capable of outputting comfortably per month. All printers have this grading, irrespective of brand – it is similar to the mileage or engine size on a car. If a printer is continuously breaking down, it is possible that it does not have the correct duty cycle to cope with the amount of print being sent.
When purchasing, look for the highest duty cycles, this make the printer more reliable.
Printer memory
Think of it like a water funnel, the higher the MB memory, the wider the funnel. This means jobs are processed quicker, and therefore pages come out quicker.
Processor
These carry information and are much like a motorway. The bigger they are, the more lanes they have, therefore the more traffic they can carry and info can get round more efficiently. This adds to faster processing and subsequent faster printing speed.
